The following information from the Pharmaceutical Society of Ireland may assist you in obtaining certification for this cabinet:

Regulation 6(2)(b) of the Misuse of Drugs (Safe Custody) Regulations 1982, as amended, provides that a member of an Garda Siochana (not below the rank of Superintendent) may on receipt of an application in writing inspect or cause to be inspected, any safe or cabinet in which controlled drugs are kept. The member of an Garda Siochana (not below the rank of Superintendent) should certify that the safe or cabinet provides a degree of security which, in his opinion, in all the circumstances of the case is at least equivalent to the requirements set out in the schedule attached. A certificate is then issued which will remain in force for a period of two years.

  • Contact a member of an Garda Siochana to assess the safe installed at your premises. Following the assessment, if the member of an Garda Siochana is satisfied that the safe meets the relevant requirements, a certificate of compliance will be issued.
  • The certificate should quote the relevant Regulation – Regulation 6(2)(b) of the Misuse of Drugs (Safe Custody Regulations)1982, as amended i.e. It should indicate that the member of an Garda Siochana is satisfied that the safe provides a degree of security which in all circumstances of the case, is at least equivalent to that which would be provided by a safe or cabinet which complies with the requirements set out in the Schedule to the Misuse of Drugs (Safe Custody) Regulations 1982, as amended.
  • The certificate must be signed by a member of an Garda Siochana not below the rank of Superintendent.
  • Every certificate issued shall specify any conditions which the member of an Garda Siochana considers necessary to ensure that each safe or cabinet will provide an adequate degree of security.
  • Note: If you intend to obtain Garda Certification please remember that this may take some time
